Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Kai came to the United States as a child and has spent much of her life building a future in the country she calls home. Since becoming a DACA recipient in 2012, she has pursued her education, built a career in public policy and data analytics, and dedicated herself to serving her community.
A former TheDream.US Scholar, Kai earned a Bachelor of Arts from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a Master of Public Policy from George Washington University. Her work in program evaluation, grant management, and community program development focuses on helping organizations better serve the communities they support.
Kai remains deeply connected to the Dreamer community through her service on TheDream.US Advisory Board, where she helps support students navigating many of the same challenges she once faced. She also volunteers with the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy, serving on its Professional Development Funds Committee and Alumni Council.
Most recently, Kai was accepted into a Ph.D. program at Howard University, where she hopes to further her research, teaching, and leadership. Yet like many Dreamers, she continues to face uncertainty due to delays in the DACA renewal process.
Kai’s story reflects the determination, resilience, and contributions of Dreamers across the country. Through her education, career, and service, she has demonstrated the impact that is possible when talented young people are given the opportunity to pursue their dreams.
